Spookulele 1 at SK Foodie Friday

Friday 30th October 2015

Once again we were asked to take part in the Halloween Foodie Friday on what turned out to be a lovely warm evening.

As always there were many food stalls available so we made our choices to eat before our first set outside in the market square. Many of the people watching us were suitably attired in Halloween costumes, especially the children who took over the space immediately in front of us so that they could dance to the music.

At the end of our set, at the request of John Barratt of Seven Miles Out, we played and sang the World Premier of "Stockport is Really Fantastic", which was written by Frank Sidebottom. Songsheets were handed out so that the audience could join in.            Click here to see the video

Dr Uke then performed a set outside and it was time to move into Seven Miles Out for our second set of the evening. Dr Uke decided to sit and watch us, so we had a mainly female band to perform this time.

Finally to round off the evening Dr Uke played the closing set in Seven Miles Out.

Another excellent evening in Stockport Old Town

Thank you to Rosalyn Westerman and Lorraine Balfe for the photos.

Retirement Party

On Friday 23rd October a small band of us played at a retirement party in Romiley Cricket Club.
Kath was retiring after more than 40 years at Romiley Primary school so our audience comprised teachers and parents past and present and members of her family.

The room was very full so at times we struggled to hear ourselves play but the audience clearly had no problem as they joined in singing many of the songs before the finale when they joined in the actions for YMCA, led as ever by Sandra.

We received many compliments, both on the night and during the following week and the current headmaster is now thinking about introducing ukulele lessons in the school.

As an added bonus we partook of the excellent buffet!

St Peter's Church

Saturday 10th October

SUP were invited to play at the coffee morning at St Peter's Church in Stockport.

A fine array of cakes were on sale, alongside tea, coffee, gifts and homemade jam!

We played two 20 minute sets with a break in the middle while our own Ian Gough played a few tunes on the Theatre Organ.

The audience seemed to enjoy our show - Overheard in Saint Peter's Tearoom.
" Stockport Ukulele were good, weren't they? " " Yes, they were funny, weren't they ?"

and a nice comment was published on Facebook
" Best ever concert with thanks to David Nicholas, Ian Gough, Stockport Ukulele Players, and Joe Brown and friends. £191 raised for church funds......helping keep St. Peter's Church open."

Dr Uke at Stockport Market

Friday 25th September saw Dr Uke make their first appearance at Stockport Market Foodie Friday

followed by a rocking performance inside Seven Miles Out.

A dozen or so SUP members made sure of a good place in the audience.
